I’ve been making it a point to have at least one serving of spirulina everyday since I’m pregnant. It’s part of my ‘vitamin’ routine which is heavily based on real foods of course!
And I usually add it to my smoothies and oh do they get to be the most beautiful emerald green color! But I thought I’d play around with using it in a different kind of recipe - a homemade protein bar.
I like the IDEA of protein bars but not even because I want or need protein because all you need is to focus on real ingredients - plants! And I only call it a ‘protein’ bar because spirulina is the BEST plant based protein I know of, that and all of our leafy greens are. They are super absorbable.
I highly recommend Hawaiian 🌺 spirulina especially if you are plant based! You can get it in tablet form but I love the powder for my smoothies and now recipes!
Hawaiian Spirulina is full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, and contains some of the highest levels of protein of any plant or animal source. This superfood contains up to 70% digestible, complete protein, high levels of iron, beta carotene, and other healthful nutrients including B12, vitamin K, chlorophyll, and phycocyanin.
It is great if you are low in iron, or pregnant! ME! And I’ll definitely be taking this postpartum every single day!
Spirulina is great for anti-aging, helps protect against infection, great for digestive health, increases absorption of nutrients from food, eliminates mercury and other deadly toxins commonly inside the body,
It’s sort of hard to find what I want when buying a plant based snack bar so I decided to play with my own and came up with these SUPER GREEN SPIRULINA BARS 🌱🌱🌱 They work well as a bar OR broken up as a healthy granola!
It holds up ok as is but works really well as a granola topping over a fruit bowl or a plant based yogurt!
