Mocha Alkaline Coffee
Here's something to Starbuck's a run for their money! Do you know what's so great is that there is a healthy substitute for everything. I'm not kidding. Just because a drive up coffee shop is convenient, doesn't mean with a few tips and tricks you can't have the taste of what you think you want, and actually do something good for your body at the same time.
People ask me all the time - is coffee bad? The first thing I recommend is not labeling what you do as 'bad' or 'good' as much as identifying what's true about the food or the thing it is that you want. Let's investigate coffee a little more.
Coffee is acidic. We want our bodies to be slightly alkaline to keep away disease. That means eating an alkaline diet and limiting other things that cause acidity like worrying and too much stress. On the alkaline chart scale, coffee shows up at around a pH 4.0. Now it takes 20 parts alkalinity in the body to neutralize one part acidity. So good luck achieving that when you drink coffee all day long. Here are some other really acidic foods:
- SUGAR
- Alcohol
- Stress & worry
- Pork
- Tobacco
- Processed Foods
- Microwaved Foods
Now that you know a little more, think about that mocha from Starbucks, not only do you get coffee, but mocha = sugar. And if you add milk you get inflammation and possibly more sugar. Make sure you check on what type of milk or non-dairy milk restaurants are using. You want to avoid carageenan and look for an unsweetened non-dairy alternative.
Now thinking of all of this, it's one of the reasons I prefer to have easy access ready to go alternatives so I don't need to rely on somebody else to make sure I stay healthy. I love to mix up this alkaline mocha coffee. It's awesome because you can mix it up cold or warm and it also has green coffee bean extract in it which helps as an appetite suppressant and increased metabolism. I mixed mine up with alkaline water and unsweetened flax milk. Sometimes I add organic essential peppermint oil and I have my very own, clean, alkaline, healthy warm cozy drink. Now all I need is my own red cup and I'm set....
What's your go-to coffee drink? Post below and let me know. There really are pure alternatives all around us when we look for them.
