The first thing I "eat" everyday
The very first thing I do everyday when I wake is take my probiotic. Probiotics provide a variety of healthy bacteria which may help support digestive health, especially because we live in a world of unbalanced gut flora. The health of the digestive system is so so important. As a dietitian I have worked with many people and probiotics are one of the first things that come up as they are thought to be important for overall health and wellness. I have studied many different ones and the one I personally take is Genesis Pure. Let me go over the ingredients in this one and explain what they are and what they do and why we need them! One more very important aspect to this particular probiotic is that it uses a proprietary technology intended to help protect bacteria from the highly acidic environment of the stomach and get to where we need it to be: the intestines.
NOTE: No product is intended to cure, treat, or prevent any disease.
FOS Complete prebiotic (Fructooligosaccahrides): FOS are starches that our bodies cannot fully digest. So when you take them in, the remnants help to feed the other good bacteria in our gut. That's why they are call "pre" biotics. You will find fructooligosaccharides in Jerusalem artichokes, asparagus, leeks, onions and a few other foods.
Studies have shown that FOS may help in improving cholesterol profiles, decreasing allergies, reducing instances of traveler's diarrhea, helping with constipation and overall boosting the immune system.
Lactobacillus plantarum: This good bacteria is actually found in fermented foods and in our saliva. It acts by protecting the intestinal lining from bad bacteria that would then get into the bloodstream and then travel throughout the body. It quickly digests proteins, it regulates immunity and stomach inflammation and aids in absorption of omega-3s, vitamins and antioxidants.
Benefits: treatment of Crohn's disease, IBS, decreases symptoms of colitis, continues to work in the presence of antibiotics, decreases food allergies
Lactobacillus acidophilus: One of the most common probiotics, when L. acidophilus breaks down food in the intestine, it releases hydrogen peroxide and lactic acid, which creates an environment that "bad" bacteria cannot survive. It also produces Vitamin K and lactase which is why is helps with people who are lactose intolerant.
Lactococcus Lactis: This bacteria ferments lactose to lactic acid, again creating an environment difficult for bad bacteria. It also has a different pH, temperature and salt tolerance than other bacteria in the same family. This bacteria is responsible for the souring of milk.
Lactobacillus salivarius: produces lactic acid, lactase enzyme, bacteriocins, proteins or peptides that are toxic to some other types of bacteria. L. salivarius is found in large amounts in the gut which helps it to overtake many pathogens. It is capable of surviving in high salt conditions and can grow in the presence or absence of oxygen.
Streptococcus thermophilus: this strain can survive in extreme temperatures due to its very thick cell wall
Bifidobacterium lactis: very effective in resisting acid digestion, preventing diarrhea, relieving constipation and decreasing chronic pain and inflammation of the colon, making it very valuable for your large intestine. In addition to its many other health benefits, Bifidobacterium Lactis is also very beneficial in preventing and treating atopic eczema in children with food allergies.
Research has also shown its ability to protect epithelial cells from damage by gliadin exposure. People that suffer from celiac disease can develop serious intestinal symptoms and a damaged small bowel mucosa for wheat gliadin.
Bifidobacterium bifidum: Bifidobacteria are normal inhabitants of the human and animal colon. Newborns, especially those thatare breast-fed, are colonized with bifidobacteria within days after birth. The bifidobacteria population is influenced by a number of factors, including diet, antibiotics and stress.
I've never seen a probiotic containing this blend thereby giving so many positive benefits. If you aren't currently taking one, you can find this one here or if you want to get this for a discounted price ask me how!
